Gas & oil. I didn't mix, is the engine ruined?

I just bought an 87 Bayliner Capri with a Force engine. I had no clue I had to mix oil in the gas. I used the boat 3 times without doing this & the 3rd the engine died & I had to get towed. Now I have the engine in a bucket & have added the proper oil amounts to the gas & it won't start. Sounds like it wants to, but no dice. Did I ruin the engine?

Need to check compression, but my guess is that the motor is shot.

Were you at WOT when it shut down? If so, it is probably scored pretty bad and some rings may be broken. You should at least pull the head off and check the condition of the cylinders and pistons.

Check the compression prior to pulling the head. Squirt some oil in the cylinders before doing the check.

UH! You have most likely ruined the crankshaft and connecting rods in addition to scoring the cylinders. Yes, the engine is probably shot and not worth rebuilding. best case would be to find another block and mount it on yiour leg or even just buy another whole running engine.

This wouldn't happen to be an L drive engine/boat combo would it? It was a common mistake because people thought they were regular inboard/outdrive engines and ran them on straight gas.
