you don't only plug the vent hole for long storage.... you close the vent off everytime you are done boating for the day and open before starting the engine next time out..... this is to prevent the gradual build up of moisture over an extended period of time with a partial tank of fuel. This moisture comes from fresh air being drawn in every night

I think it's pretty important to install a spring loaded pressure relief valve of some sort to prevent excessive pressure (more than about 2 psi) in the fuel tank....

ok for everyone questioning the longevity of gas! I just got done with my air compressor blowing out 35gal of fuel from the boat I just finished refurbing, it had been sitting since last april 10 and fuel came out brownish and smelling really funny. I blew it totally out till nothing but air left, I was panicing looking for more 5gal buckets guess the fuel gauge really doesn't work! (thats the next question? only 2 wires hooked to the fuel sending unit (thing) pink and black, how do you test to know if good or bad?
