My Grandfather left me an older Sears Ted Williams twin cylinder 15hp outboard motor. The Chassis# 217/28631-1 The Serial# 6D112387 Does anyone know the gas/oil ratio for the engine and the proper oil to use. Last time I used a good synthetic that I use for chainsaws and leafblowers , but it didn't seem to have the top end power that I thought it should. I'm also going to check/change the lower unit oil seeing that the engine sat for almost 15yrs. Any info would be a huge help!

I couldn't find the model number you posted. If it is 217.586311,then here is the information you need.

It is a 1976,15hp and the mix ratio is 50:1.Don't use the air cooled oil for chainsaws and leaf blowers.Only use TCW3 oil which is formulated for water cooled motors.Hope this helps.

Re: gas oil ratio for 15hp sears Ted Williams Outboard???

i tried looking up your model on sears parts lookup and it came back unidentified. most powerheads for sears were built by eska, which is a tecumseh unit, the fuel ratio is 50-1 but use a marine grade 2 stroke oil as they are designed for the the waterways for less pollution. you could use regular oil for lawn and garden in a pinch but i recommend using a marine grade synthetic for optimum performance. lower end oil is 90w gear oil and it should hold @ 6 ounces. to remove and replace the oil remove the 2 screws in the lower unit aloow oil to drain into a pan, you can blow compressed air into the top hole to try to get remaining fluid out.they make kits for doing the lower end oil replacement. i have used an old piece of fuel line hooked up to end of gear lube and screw it into the lower hole and squeeze until the fluid comes out the top hole.replace both screws and your on your way, if you need additional help refer back to your post and i'm sure someone would be happy to help you. welcome to iboats and good luck on your project.
