Re: gas or petrol

Hello
I would not see any disadvantage really. except for possibly finding fueling stations. I used to work on propane powered lift equipment and trucks and it burns super clean.I dont know about your side of the pond but on our side product liability would be an issue. I can see the duck hunter noiw trying to heat his boat and cook his breakfast while running to the blind. then sueing someone cause no one warned him it may burn up if something upset it. if you try it you may see some power loss. but on a twenty five your not looking at holeshot times anyway. Good luck and post us back with carb ideas.
its something that may be worth looking at :)

Just curious. Why bother? What advantage does LP gas have?

Re: gas or petrol

hello
Ed. LP burns a lot cleaner. fuel is easier to handle and can stay in the tank for years and never get sour. fuel economy on most LP rigs is higher than with gas but not quite as much power. sounds like a nifty project. the LP engines we used to tear down were almost as clean as when we put them together. no chokes and primers. if distance was not a big factor the bottles could mount on the engine. other than the power issue and refilling the bottles we had no draw backs to LP post it if you start designing

Don't think about it, Chuck.

Propane is heavier than air. Any leakage could gather in the bottom or bilge and turn your boat into a bomb. That is why compressed gas fuels are banned by the USCG. That includes stove and heater fuels.

I disagree with Rodbolt on 2 questions.

Easier to handle? With a vapor pressure of 40-50psi it is harder and more dangerous to handle.

Better economy? Not so either. The energy content of propane is well below that of gasoline. Not enough cheaper to make up the difference.

Good luck. :)

JB I agree on the heavier than air. but so ar fuel vapors. here compressed gas is banned I dont know on the other side of the pond. appearently his main engine is LPG as well. he said just carring one fuel I have seen propan work very well on river boats in south america for 2 reasons. 1 it is easy to transport and two it is difficult to contaminate. when I said handle it I was meaning to transport it. were ran our navy p250 pumps, using the gale/omc55 power head. on JP-5 jet fuel. started them on propane and switched to jp-5. but here our product liability would not allow for it. can you imagine the average Joe schuckatelly with a hydrogen fuel cell?
that technology will be a long long time catching on on this side of the pond.LPG has advaantages but who knows
would be an interesting progect. I would have a certifed gas engineer look over the design though before I blew up my boat :) :) and for safty, has anyone ever seen the liquid alchol that is used in stoves burn?
it burns really really well and has no visible flame. just what ever it is burning. Good luck and keep posting
