Re: Gas prices AGAIN rant rant rant rant

Ed Wallace a local car show guy a few weeks ago reported that Japan had been shipping oil from their strategic reserve since Katrina. He said that was scheduled to end Jan.1 and to 'just wait and see' what happens. I guess we are seeing. :(

ERRRR, $2.37 last night - up to $2.39 - $2.41 around here today. Hard to believe that less than 1 month ago I was getting it for $2.02!

In the $2.30's. Up from a low of 1.99. High prices were blamed on Katrina during our last huge price increase. I think that the oil companies have wisened up. They do not want to get caught with their pants down once again. Rather than wait for some sort of catasrophe to disable refineries before jacking up prices, they are planning ahead and doing it now .

I would place a gremlin here, but none are appropriate for the combination of anger, sarcasm, and frustration!

I don't understand how this can be defended as
capitalism. Supply and demand....right.

Well, as of last night our "cheap gas" is at $2.49 and still climbing. A station owner mentioned that $3.25 to $3.50 might be the normal before long  without any real explanation.

I am not a math genius but it seems like a 15% increase in less than 10 days.

You can track the direction of gas prices by tracking the futures market on NY Merch Exchange.

It has been very volatile lately, with daily price fluctuations 6 or 7 cents a gal or more. It bounces one way or another, but the trend lately has been decidedly up, for whatever reason

You have to add taxes and a little profit to approximate pump price but it closed today somewhere around 1.71/gal.

Probably has more to do with the notion that refineries have a choice of what product they make out of the crude, and with diesel and heating oil at higher prices than unleaded, it's not a wild shock that unleaded production volume suffers.

China has just purchased a number of oil field leases from Nigeria, the deal has yet to be ratified be the Nigerian govt', this has effectively taken a lot of crude off the spot market, therefore the price of crude goes back up to the $60.00 per barrel :(

You guys crack me up. Last big spike after Katrina etc. many of you said that prices would never go down, ya know conspiracy, anti-trust, regulate, Cheney, Bush, blah, blah, blah. Prices did go down dramatically and very few comments. Goes slightly up again and the sky is falling . . . Hmmmmm.

It's about 98.9 to 110.9 up here Aldo.
Depends on what day of the week it is, and what time of day. I've seen it swing 12 cents in 1 hour, up for peak hour, then back down again.
