Has anyone ever had this happen to them ??

We were at a gas station, waiting our turn to fuel up the truck, when the car we were waiting for got ready to leave. I started the truck up, and waited for him to back up, and pull out.

He did so.

As I started to pull up, this little "car" pulled up and backed in ahead of me, and cut me off from pulling up to the pump !!!!!!!!!!

I had waited there about 15 minutes, the driveway was REAL BUSY !!!!!!!

I got so mad, that I got out of the truck, walked up, and shut his pump off !!!!!!!!!!!! The speaker/intercom was broke, and he had to walk inside to get the pump re-started !!!!!!!!

NO, I didn't get the pump any sooner, but I inconvienced him !!!!!!

THAT rates the same with me, as ramp rudeness !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

From the size of your font and the number of exclamations points, it sounds like you're still mad at the guy in the car. Sure, I've had the same thing happen to me. Probably all of us have.

No fun. But...it's a pretty big risk these days going up and shutting the pump off on the guy. I sure wouldn't do it. I might make my unhappiness known to him in no uncertain terms, but...

Are there no other places to fill up in your town?

It was the cheapest place in that town. No, it was a station 96 miles from my house, BUT right by the lake.

Nah, I'm not still mad. It's just that people like that really tick me off !!!!!! ;)

Me too. One question, when you shut the pump off on him, did you at least tell him what he did? If not, he's probably posting somewhere else about the crazy guy that he can't stand that just shut off his pump for no reason at all.

Re: Gas Pump Courtesy Please !!!!!!

I have found and maybe other people have discovered the same thing....

Since the rise in prices ALL the pumps have been switched to the slowest pump speed. This allows the people who used to put in $4-$5 the ability to stop on the dollar.

The pumps are slower.....

More and more stations are going to pre-pay......

We just have to learn to be patient........ Don't worry about the guy who cut you off..... his bad day is coming.

They had to slow the rate that the gas flowed out of the pump because the $ sale ticker on the pumps couldn't keep up... they can only flip pennies so fast, after that they have to slow the pumps.

Oh YES, SgtMaj., I let him know why I shut his pump off.

What I should have done, was pull the boat up ahead of him lower the prop, start the motor, and carve my initials in his hood !!!!!!!!! ;)

I was thinking you should have backed the boat up with inches to spare, then dropped it off the hitch and left it there, while you pull around behind him with inches to spare and block him in 'til the gas station gets ticked enough to call a wrecker to move your tow vehicle or the boat... should be good for at least an hour anyway. :D

He's lucky that the only thing you shut off was his pump.

With oil trading at an all time high, pushing $120.00 a barrell. All the filling stations in Rock Springs, Wyoming are now pre-pay or Credit Cards, the last two hold outs changed over this past Sunday. I have a buddy who is Policeman with the RS Police Dept. I talked with him this past weekend about drive offs. He told me so far this month there have been 350 reported drive off from the last two remaining stations that were not pre-pay. What a disturbed time we all live in!!!!

While I can't prove it, I am convinced that the business of slowing down the pump well before the prepaid amount is reached, is a deliberate attempt to frustrate customers into just stopping the pump. Think how much extra money can be made if this efforts works on a few hundred people every day - in my area, pumps now slow down as much as 60 cents before the preset amount!

With my gas bill over $1700 a month now, they don't even think about slowing my pump down.

Run about that amount through the semi every week. Two 150 gallon tanks of diesel cost a bit to fill up at $3.98 to 4.45 a gallon...

This is off topic, I noticed your sig had your boat GPSed at 30 with a 70. My little boat gps'ed at 27.5 with a 28! It's a mini-missile at 13 feet with 3 feet being the unusable "point" in the front, a 10 foot boat with a 30 tends to move pretty good! :D

Big heavy deep V hulls are not for speed. :p I had a old 12' fiberglass hull that when I put a 9.5 Johnson would almost run with a friends 16' boat with a 25hp rude on it. It was a bit scary at speed.

Life is too short. There was a time when I'd get mad, but not much any more. Where ever he a had to go I hope he made it there alive and on time. I'll get to wherever I'm going when I get there. Learned to take it all in stride.

The speed of light is a finite number, the gas price increases are apparantly infinite.

I'd be mad too if someone did that and nothing gets under my skin more than a flagrant violation of social etiquette. It takes all types and I'm not one to sit there and rationalize to myself that he/she will get theirs at some undetermined point in the future. Maybe I'll mellow in my elder years and become a bit more tolerant, but for now if someone did that I would be out of my car and over at the pump having a little conversation with them.

Re: Gas Pump Courtesy Please !!!!!!

something similar happened to me. I was pulling my 22 ft trophy and gassed up. While gassing up someone pulls in front (the only way out was by going forward) and parks! Not getting gas just parks and goes in to by lottery tickets. Mind you there were plenty of places to park that didn't block me in. I calmly finished gassing up. got ready to leave, cranked my truck up, and sat on the horn. when he came out to move his car, he looked at me and yelled 'A-----e!' I just smiled, said, yep! flipped him off and drove off. I believe in the saying 'Not to suffer fools'.
