Just got a 1984 bayliner ciera with a volvo penta v8 motor. I/O. boat has been sitting with half to 3 quarters tank of gas for about ten years. They had it running last year to start getting her back in shape, but had to stop. winterized it, and has sat untill now.Any suggestions. and if i have to drain it, who takes bad gas?
Im a first time boat owner. Have auto experience.
Also have to find out what parts to use. is it gm,or ford. The outdrive says 280 on it. have to find out what that is also. thx.

Is the distributer in the Fore(Ford), or in the aft(Chevy),on the motor..??

Re: gas question drain or no drain

Hi, thx for the welcome. Dist is in the back,so i guess chevy. Just like in cars, i should have known that. and its orange, lol. My friends will never let me live this one down. Im a Ford guy all the way, lol.
So i should pump it out? What about half or a quarter, and then put fresh stuff in, with some stabilizer? I know if it was a car, i would prob replace the whole tank and start new, but not with this.
Thx for ur time.

I wouldn't put 10 year old gas in my lawn mower. 4 or 5 year old gas can be iffy. But 10, no way

Yep, gonna drain it. Thx. Just found out altenator is siezed! 600 bucks for new!! wow, am i ever getting into the water? LOL. im used to car parts, like 45 bucks for one of these. Any suggestions on where to get one cheaper, or have this one rebuilt? Im prob going to replace starter too, just to be safe. The boat only has 600 hours on it, but it should be replaced yes?
Thx for the help.

Why don't you just take your alternator to your local starter/alternator/electric motor shop and have it repaired. They can probably fix it and have it working like new for less than a hundred bucks.

Ditto on the alternator. Mine was seized too and I had it rebuilt at a local shop for $125. vs over $500 new.

Found an alt. online, from DB electric.new for $95.00.
Back to the gas thing. How do u remove a gas tank if you had to. Its a 84 bayliner ciera, and it sits in a well right in front of motor. Sleeping area floor is on top of it. Havent really taken mattress out of that area yet. Is there access from in there?

You need to start a new thread on how to clean your tank, and on your mattress problem, but use the proper forum.
The Boat Topics and Questions (NOT engine topics) is the proper place for your questions.
You would also be better off to start seperate threads on each problem, not near as confusing as mattress and tank problems in the same post.
