Gas smell in cabin 240 Sundancer

Greetings,

I just bought a 2000 240 Sundancer and I have noticed a faint gasoline smell in the cabin after the boat sits for about a week. Is this something to be concerned about? If so what do I need to do? I'm worried about sleeping in the boat and inhaling fumes.

I just bought a '80 225 and the previous owner commented on a gas smell he noticed while pulling the storage cover off for the first time this year. Turned out to be the gasket on some device (sender unit?) mounted on the top of the tank. He took it off, cleaned off the old gasket and used a suitable gasket making goup to reseal it.

I have not dug that deep into the boat yet to see what cover he was talking about but I don't smell any gas fumes either.

Any tips for tracking down where the leak is? I got a feeling this is going to be tough to fix!

Be careful... any gas smell is a problem. Your boat has a fuel filler and a vent outside the hull.

Well I looked around as best as I could and couldn't see any visible leaks... Any thoughts on how I might track this down?

Tough one.
It's not likely a corroded tank issue so try running your hands over all the fittings and lines. Smell your fingers (that sounds funny). I'm not sure why it would smell a week after it's been run... something under a bit of pressure after it's shut off maybe. Look closely at the lines after the fuel pump. Is this a carb or efi model?

This is an EFI model. Still haven't been able to solve it...I may have to give up and take 'er in for repair.

Well... if there's no leaks the only thing I can think of is to check your tank vent.
Maybe a bit of smell stays in the boat with the cover on, it might be covering the vent.
Please post your findings, I'm curious...

My 27' Sundancer after filling up and stopping has gas fumes in cabin for several days. How do I get to the fill line and vent pipe? Do I have to go through the interior walls or floor? How do you access the tank to check for any problems?

Sounds like a similar problem. I don't know if it's the same as yours but the tank in my '87 was accessable by lifting the floor panel in between the seats. The lines are visible there too.
