Gas stabilizer

I've recently purchased a 1993 17 foot bowrider with a Johnson 90. It has a forward mounted built in gas tank. I was wondering if I could use stabilizer in there with each fill up? I may go a month or two between using the boat and don't know if it will gum up in that time frame? Would it be ok to add some methanol to the gas instead to keep the condensation down? Great site. yes i use stablilizer year round for that reason. if you keep your tank toped up condensation shouldnt be a problem

Methanol?? No. Stabilizer should be used if the boat will sit for extended periods. Add the stabilizer and then run the engine long enough get the mixture into the fuel system and carbs. If you are in an area that uses oxygenated fuel (10% ethanol blend) then you are advised to keep the tank full and by all means use a stabilizer and as an added precaution, add a fuel/water separating fuel filter.

The directions on Stabil state that the best time to add it is right after the gas has come out of the gas pump. I use Stabil and some of the more glamorous and more expensive ones,
but Stabil works just as good as the rest. Use a stabilizer, and you won't regret it.

A good idea to do this. A common misconception about this product is that it can be used to bring life back to old stale gas. This is not true. It does help preserve the fuel when not being used but does not make it fresh again once stale. If it goes stale, toss in lawn mower.
