Hi Folks,
Im hopping someone will be able to give me some suggestions on where to find an unusual part. I have a hatch that is held open by a gas strut, this one is the model capable of holding 20 lbs, manufacturer is the Barnes Group. One each end of the strut is a small metal clip that keeps the strut positioned on the little knob on the hatch and on the window frame. Somehow, one of these clips is now missing.. Anyone have any cool sources for odd parts like this. I've contacted the distributor and they say they can only sell the whole strut, same with West etc. Am still trying to make a contact at the manufturer to see if they can help, but any suggestions are appreciated.

Re: Gas strut replacement

Need better information. Pictures, model number, style would help, as well as the make aqnde model of the boat.

I have gas struts that are made by Ameritool, http://www.ameritoolmfg.com, and they sell different parts but you must purchase replacement end fitting, not just the clip. I have purchased from them and it was very easy.

Find a place that sells truck caps (for pick-up's) and they use the same clips. I bet they would have some on hand.

Will try Bob's idea of the truck caps, just realized that the end caps do unscrew so it may be easier to just replace an end cap with screw in place. If no luck, I'll post pics and more details. Thanks for suggestion Bob. Am planning a run from Whitehall to Plattsburgh this summer, maybe I'll run into you on Champlain.....

Most likely, there aren't too many different sizes of spring clips so you may be able to nab one from a prop that they have in stock.
