Gas Tank Capacity

Anyone know the Gas tank capacity of a 1988 Nordic Crestliner Phantom 185 /3.7 ltr I/O? I have run it down to half a tank according to the gauge (If it's correct) , and then filled it up, But I haven't owned the boat that long, and am not sure of the accuracy of the guage

I don't know the fuel capacity of that boat, but... Never rely on a boat's fuel gauge to be 100% accurate. It could take burning 25% of the tank to get the sender to start reading that the level is dropping, or the gauge could read a bit over empty when the engine is running on fumes...

I topped the tank a 2 trips ago and it was still reading full after the first trip, a bit under full after the second trip, yet the tank is probably 10 gallons low (27 gallon tank)...

If you call Crestliner, they might be able to tell you what the boat's fuel tank capacity. Or, if you have access to the tank, measure it and figure out the volume, or the tank should have it's capacity marked on the top of the tank (along with other specs).

Where is the tank located, bow, stern, saddle, belly?

Look for the sending unit on the tank for the fuel guage. Righ near it should be a data plate put on by the tank manufacturer giving the capacity.

My tank is still half full when the gauge is bouncing on E.

Fuel gauges can be wildly inacurate or somewhat reliable, like DBreskin advises. However there is no way to tell, except by testing. Normally a boat like that will have a fuel tank of 30-40Gal. So if when you fill it, it takes 15-20 gal, you have one data point. The fuel gauge is probably reliable, which means whenever it reads 1/2, it will always take the same amount of fuel to fill it.

If you can reach enough of it to measure it:

L x W x H in inches, then divide by 231 and that wil give you gallons.
