gas tank ground? need fast answer please.

i have a bare solid copper wire coming off of my inner transom plate port side.
where does it go? ground to gas tank? igot it attached to engine block right now
but before i start it i would like to get it right. 1973 starcraft ss merc 120

not enough info. pic would be nice. Is the boat aluminum? The outdrive and various components should be connected to the negitive of the bat to mitigate corrosion

A bonding jumper is a reliable conductor to ensure the required electrical conductivity between metal raceways required to be electrically connected

on inner transom plate just below ehaust hose is a clip that holds the shift interlock switch from there is a solid bare copper wire, dont know where it goes.
was not hooked up before, no terminal on it. does the gas tank need grounded it has no electric gauge in dash but it has a tank gauge. soory no pics.
