I tried posting this under the engine section, but the message says my account was disabled or I dont have access to that page.

So anyhow, took the "new' old boat out twice so far. It came with a 6 gal. metal tank, and I bought a 6 gal. plastic tank and the Mercury adapter for the tank so i could just do a quick switch when tank # 1 is empty.

So, day 1, I go through a full tank (metal), and switch to plastic. After stopping the motor to fish, I had trouble starting it and keeping it running. I sort of freaked as I was out in the middle of nowhere with my daughter. The motor would start, but if I throttled up, it would bog down and cut out.
I primed it and let it run at idle for a while and eventually, it was okay.

Day 2, i started out with the fuel line connected to the plastic tank. The next time I stopped the motor and started it 30 mins later, same issues. My buddy noticed that the primer bulb was collapsed and ghe couldnt prime as it wouldnt inflate.

So now, I was thinking I just needed a new bulb. I disconnected the line from the tank, and the bulb inflated. I primed it and the motor started, same issues.

I switched the line to the metal tank and it started right up and ran perfect.
So I know there is an issue with the new plastic tank or adapter I bought.

Does anybody have any experience with this? Im not sure of the exact dynamics of how it siphons the gas. Do these after market adapters have common defects or are they known to be pretty reliable?

Suggestions very welcomed!!!

Re: Gas tank issues

the plastic tank most likely has an air vent on the cap that needs to be opened up.
