Hello,
In my 1988 bowrider, I have a 23 gallon aluminum gas tank mounted above deck, next to the engine on port side.
I took it out when I replaced the floor and carpet and figured I'd flush it out before I put it back in. ( the boat has sat for over 10 years )
After a good cleaning, I filled it up half way with water, sealed the ends and pressurized it with a few pounds of air ( 2-3 PSI ).
I now have about 10-12 spots on the BOTTOM of the tank that's seeping water. Nothing that has even made a droplet yet. The tank actually looks like it's quite good shape too so this surprised me.
With NO pressure, it won't seep.
What I'm in need of now is options......
I know there many good sealers out there but in a boat application, I'm a little concerned that it might not last for the long haul.
With the shape of my tank, A new one would have to be CUSTOM made to fit.
Could I have a welding shop cut out my tank bottom and weld in a new one?
I am going to sell the boat but I do want it 100% right before I do. I want a lasting fix, not just something to cover up the leaks for the short ride.
What do you guys suggest?
Thanks in advance,
wncrjb
