Hello im new to the forum and new to boating. I just bought my first boat a 1983 seanymph 16 coho with a 1983 evenruide 15. My question is about the gas tank, its a 6 gal metal, i filled it with gas and the gas leaks out where you hook the hose fitting on. Is this normal? should i disconect the hose from the motor rather than the tank?

Welcome to iboats!

No, it is not normal (not to mention extremely dangerous) for gas to leak from the fitting. Fortunately, replacement fittings are cheap and readily obtainable. If the hose is old, just get a complete replacement with the fittings already attached. Take a look here for fuel lines and fittings.

The usual practice is to detach the fuel line from the motor and coil it around the handles on the tank.

The linked web page also has the fitting for the tank itself. Here's a direct link to the part.
