I have an 85 Bayliner Capri 1950 cuddy. It has an I/O Volvo. I have cleaned out the main tank twice now, down to bone dry, rag on a screwdriver down the sending unit hole and all that. (Ive never used the main tank, I have a plastic tank under the hatch that I use)
I would like to use the main tank, but twice now its got alot of water in it. The more I look at it, In thinking that the vent is gulping water.
We bought a tube this year, and I actually got it in and I had a great view of the transom while the boat was in the water. The vent was pretty darn close to the water line. I can sure see in some 2 to 3 footers that this darned vent would dip well below the water often.
Does it seem reasonable that water might enter the tank through the vent? I wonder if there is supposed to be some sort of flapper valve in there but I think its a simple thru hull....
anyway, Im thinking of relocating the vent somewhere alot higher.
