I was wondering what the purpose of the gas tank vent is? Is it supposed to be in a certain position (opened or closed) while running? Or does it make any difference?

Shane

Re: Gas Tank Vent?

As fuel leaves the tank, air must be allowed in to take its place. Vent should be open when running. If vent is closed, and fuel is removed from tank, a vacuum will be created inside. I've seen automotive tanks collapse from this condition....

Will this in turn cause any engine problems & difficulties or will it just cause some gas tank problems?

Thanks,

Shane

You will starve your engine for fuel if the vent is closed.

Re: Gas Tank Vent?

If the tank is not vented it will more than likely cause the motor to starve for fuel when the pressure builds up too much...just a Thought

Re: Gas Tank Vent?

Oh, well I sure hate it when that happens. I was wondering the other day, why my new Walmart plastic gas tank looked like someone stepped on it from the top and the bottom. I guess that answers my question. I thought it was because it was so cold. Maybe that's also why my engine has been running so much better with this last tank of gas. I'll have to check and see if my vent has been open this time.

Thanks a lot everyone. You guys are great!!
Shane
