Gas tank vent

Hi everyone,

I was wondering where I could find the correct vent fitting for my boat. It is a 1983 Malibu Skier....currently the fuel tank vent line goes to the side of the hull and it always open. It sucks when I fill it up as it shoots out gas when close to full and at times streams out gas for a bit on an incline. ( not to mention I am probably loosing some when turning with a full tank)

Most likely,that is the original vent for the boat/tank.Thats just what happens when you fill too full!The whole point of a vent is to be open.

Raco fuel air separator. LG 50 in a low profile boat. Solved the same problem with my 88 Tracker bass boat. It used to puke when filling, or when trailering, or when boating. Sucked in a bit of water now and then also. LG 50 solved the problem.

It was a bit tricky to install, as it needs a bit of elevation to work. Got it in right on the hairy edge of angle and location minimums.

Do you suspect that you have the wrong vent on the boat? Did it come from the factory with this vent or is it something a previous owner might have replaced?

Marine catalogs show fuel vent fittings. If you need one, buy and install one.

The vent must be open to let air out of the fuel tank as you fill it and into the tank as fuel is used. It also needs to be shielded in such a way that water from rain, washing, or operation cannot enter the vent and tank.

I lost a motor due to a through-hull vent, letting salt water in. Combination of bad factory installation and age.
Fuel should not get out on turns. And if it does, I bet water is getting in.
By-pass the through hull and replace the fill cap with a vented cap.

Factory I'd bet. Stoopid fer sure.

Here's a cheep Atwood substitute. Main Diff is quality, and the other is that Raco comes with a right angle end that comes in handy when you're dealing with the short headroom problem.

I check it out but I do not have enough space from the tank to the vent for the filter. Will see if I can figure somethink out to get it figured out because that thing is 77 bucks.

On mine, The vent hose is dead flat to the separator, connected to a right angle end at that point. Separator then angles up and forward to the vent at the max allowable angle off vertical allowed. Then there is a molded elbow to the vent fitting, which was sawed off to get the last 1/2 inch needed.

It works well, even though it's stuffed into the spec. like Dolly Parton into her shirt.

Thank you JMartin...the Attwood will work great! I am going to get that one. From what it looks like there is just a round hole that almost looks like a rivet on the hull of the boat and of course the fuel line to the tank. I don't remember seeing anything on the fuel line.

I looked at the other one and don't know why I should spend more money for the same thing. Is there an advantage of the Maesco over the Attwood?

As I stated before, RACO - better quality and more rigging options. (right angle end)

The vent line must continually rise from the tank to the vent, and the valve itself must vertically oriented (within specification).

Oh ok I gotcha...I will purchase that one then thanks. LG 50 or LG 100? I have a two stroke.

LG50 is plenty. LG100 is for large systems and diesel.
