Re: Gas usage??

its is very true that your carb'd 2 stroke boat motor isn't intended for getting gas mileage. that type boat and motor combo though, you should be able to achieve a good 5 mpg at cruise speed once all is said and done.

get a tach if you don't already and trim tabs work wonders.

make sure the bottom of the hull is clean and clear or debris, scars, etc.

Enjoy what you have and to he** with the gas usage. Go out a little less if gas money is tight or take a friend with you and split the gas.
I have a friend who lives local to me at the same marina and we have started going out at least twice as much and alternate boats.
twice the boating...same cost !!!!!!!

I realize my comment is late here but I've been wondering what economy you should expect so this was very helpful. I must comment though on the article/link above. (http://www.boats.com/news-reviews/article/outboard-expert-fuel-saving-tips) He should have read what he wrote, if he had, he would have come to a different conclusion. Silvertips synopsis is right on! The article didn't even get the math right. Going from 6.13gph to 3.83 is not a 60% drop, it's less than 40%. So the easy math, is if you can more than double your speed and use less than double the gas you are ahead. And in his case he went from 28mph to 59mph and used only 40% more fuel.
