bless you

In Va you fill out a form; you have to keep receipts for 4 years (and by then then are faded to white). Used to be you sent them in. It's just like self-reporting on taxes. Technically, you have to have a detailed receipt and not one from the pump, but everyone I know uses them. After all, the trailer boats who use the gas stations don't use that much; the big boats buy at marina's and have real receipts.

I'm sure a lot of states have a process to remove the highway taxes from fuel used for "farm use." the point is the same--it's off-road. Look into it.

sschefer- your reply is incorrect. The federal tax on fuel is 18.4 cents per gallon. It doesn't matter where the price is- it matters how much is sold. The more sold the more they make. As prices rise, less will be sold so their take will drop. Since states also add taxes as do many local governments, fuel taxes can account for 15% or more of the price of fuel. That does not change. 15% ALWAYS goes to the gov't. And our "reserve" contains about enough oil to sustain this country for about a month. Hardly enough to effect the worldwide price. As for a silver bullet, there is of course a silver bullet. Increase the supply. It ALWAYS works to lower the price of anything- when you have more, it gets sold cheaper. It's simple economics

Ohio also allows for the refund of road-use taxes if you track your boat usage. I don't use enough but several charter captains I know file every year and get back several thousand dollars.

Re: Gas $$$

It's the start of election years. The current president has to show that something....

I had the same conversation with my wife, while on vacation last week (hope this thread doesn't get axed for straying...) Don't worry though, I heard the current administration is launching an investigation,,, as to the cause of the high fuel prices

Our regular unleaded was around $3.80. While fishing in AZ (Willow Beach, middle of no-where) gas was $3.53, California at the in-laws, $4.17, Death Valley $4.80.

I just came back from Willow Beach again this morning and told the wife gas was still $3.53. She told me I should have hauled our 4 jerry cans over there... Jokingly, I told her I should have filled up the boat and started bootlegging gas out of the boat, It'll hold a couple hundred gallons easy :D

reading about a new 39' contender center console w/ three Yam 300's.
Burns 34.1 GPH @ 4000 rpm/44.6 mph.
Top end 77.6 gph @ 5,950 rpm/65 mph

Oh, the boat is $313,000.

I am much happier now and hope you all are, too.

Re: Gas $$$

The primary lake I'll be using has a 50 HP limit. I need to check the covenants and see if that is per boat or per OB. :D
And you think that you have problems with a 150!!!!

15% taxes on pump fuel? and you are complaining?
Try Greece !!!!!! Highest fuel price in EU even maybe the world....

On the road we pay per litre 1.75? euros average!!!
At the marina, 1.85 per litre average!!!!
Goverment taxes on that price is..................... 1? euro!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
More than 50%......

Funny thing is that our present "socialistic" (my a*se) can not understand why the hell consuption is down, gas stations are closing and why at the end of the year they didn't collect what they where expecting................
You thing the Obama administration is bad? Try George Papandreou and his gang...........

Re: Gas $$$

Unfortunately the rest of the Lake Havasu Poker Run and the speed trials were canceled due to 40mph winds.

However talking to one of the engineers for the new 48' cat with twin 1350's - at 170mph they are burning 300 gph - so about $20 per minute for the ride of your life :)
