Gasket kit for rebuild?

Hi everyone!

I got an extra motor for my 1973 135 Evinrude. It's mostly trash, but I stripped it down to the block, and the block itself is in good condition. My current running engine has really bad compression and will hardly idle at all (see previous posts from spring this year). So, I'm wanting to swap blocks myself.

However, I'm wondering if a gasket kit like the following will have everything I need, or will I also need to order separate gaskets/seals besides the head gaskets:

http://www.boatmotors.com/mall/partfinder/gd_grid_id.171/gd_id.109043/gd_row.90/

Also, are these sierra gaskets good quality?

Won't I also need something to seal the engine to the lower unit?

What year is the replacement block? Unless its a 73 also it wont interchange with the 73 crank and rods you have.

Hi Hadley, yes, it is exactly the same motor and block. I have the manual, but looking at this gasket repair kit, I'm not sure what is included and what isn't. I don't want to get it half together and then find I'm missing a gasket or seal!

Thats all the gaskets except the head gaskets. No seals, no O rings. Obviously youll still need the other parts like carb kits, water pump kit, bearings, rod bolts, T-stats (and T-stat gaskets) etc.

Do you plan on honing the cylinders, new rings and checking the bores? Seems like a lot of work unless you do these things.

I have a hard time getting back here it seems once I've posted :0

What are the rod bolts? Not familiar with that.

SoLittle, I'm going to hone, re-ring and check the bore. I'm learning a lot, about my motor, and that's what's the most important to me, especially since I don't have much money into it anyway.

I was looking at the manual, and it looked like I might also need new seals for the crankshaft. Do I reuse the old seals if they're in good condition, of do I need to replace them? I'm not disassembling the crankshaft at all unless I have to.
