Evinrude 120 v-4 120 1993. Hey all. when attaching the powerhead to the lower unit I in my infinate wisdom put gasket sealer on the gasket. Question, does this warrant pulling the powerhead off or is it unimportant? Thanks again.

Re: gasket sealer

You are supposed to use OMC Gasket sealer. Or a substitute is Permatex Aviation Forma-Gasket in the bottle with a brush lid.

Some call it gorilla snot.

You should be fine....

Thanks for the prompt reply. Was wondering because the manual said not to. Thanks again saves me a lot of time waiting on the new gasket.

You know, I just looked it up myself. You are right...it says no sealer. But, I have ALWAYS used a thin coat of OMC Gasket sealer on the powerhead base gasket. I have never had any trouble. And despite the book, I think I will continue to use the sealer in the future.

Sorry if I have led you wrong, and I would sure like to hear from others on this subject.

Re: gasket sealer

Again thanks for the help. Just put the powerhead on last week on what has been a real learning experience for me. Blew up a piston last year and have been working on it when I can. I guess next step is the carbs to see what made it blow up the first time. Gonna try to sync it as is described in another post (out of the water) as test wheels seem to be extinct. You guys have been a real help. Thank you.

Re: gasket sealer

I have always applied a light coat of permatex on the base gasket, just to prevent water leaks.
