i ordered a new gateway laptop last week- their brand new m675x. has all the bells and whistles you can get and i paid the price. a little excited about my new toy, if it ever arrives.

anyone have any experience with gateway? i decided to go with them just because they and dell have most of the market, and i found a gateway store nearby that allowed me to atleast look and touch the computer.

i was disapointed that it isn't sked to ship until 12/8. that will be over 3 weeks from when i placed the order online. anyone know if they usually meet and exceed their shipping date?

Re: gateway laptop

Can't help you with the shipping part if you wanted quick shipping you probably would have been better with a dell. But, Gateway does have the State of New Jersey contract and a lot of the Counties around use them w/o much complaints. Hope this helps.

Re: gateway laptop

yeah, i already told gateway that dell could have gotten me my computer faster. they said oh well. i was really undecided between gateway and dell until i realized there were no dell places within 100 miles. gateway store 26 miles away. and before i spend that much, i want to see the product a little closer than on the internet, if you know what i mean. hope i'm happy with it.

Re: gateway laptop

My current computer is a Gateway 1450 Solo laptop. Its about 14 months old, 1.2 gig processor 20 gig harddrive, 128 mb RAM, dvd-rom, blah blah blah. Bought it off my sister who bought it brand new and realized she didn't need it. I paid her $700, about half of what she paid, I got the hook-a-brother-up deal. Anyway, it has worked fine, never a problem. It has the XP operating system if that matters. I had a Hewlet-Packard before that gave me heck for a few years. All our computers at work are Dells and they do not work well at all. They are constantly locking up or losing information or whatever, and in our business, the computer is our life.

Re: gateway laptop

my "mainframe" puter is a cow, er, Gateway, with most everytthing you could want it was 1200, but that includes the extended warranty, got it 2001

of course, I dont use anything but the laptop cause I love the lcd screen, but gateway was the best deal out there, and at the time it was the only one that you could get a different operating system on, I wanted 98 SE, was told XP was no good (security leaks) live and learn, the lappie has XP, and except for cant chat in the chatroom, no prob

Hmmmmmmm

I could run both at the same time, would let me run my mouth and let me see whats going on, lol

eh, no one talks in the iboat chat anyway it seems

gateway = good puter, wont be sorry

Ill have to ask my geek of a brother which one he got, he is a procurement agent for a massive computer sciences corporation that oversaw a lot of military systems

Shangaii?? I thought they were made in South Dakota. The cow thing.

I have had two gateway computers over the last 6 years and seem to have far less problems with my computers than most people. Maybe I should get a laptop, do they float? Ha ha

Re: gateway laptop

I live in Nebraska, right where Nebraska, Iowa and South Dakota come together. Gateway's main plant in North Sioux City, SD is a 15 minute drive from here.

I have alot of friends and relatives that work/worked for Gateway. They've been laying people off right and left for the last 2 years. I haven't heard of alot of problems with their system ONCE YOU GET IT. The main problems with Gateway is actually getting you what you ordered.

I've owned Gateways before, but 3 years ago, when I wanted an upgrade, for a goof I got on to Dell's website. I custom built a PC online to what I wanted, and here it was on my doorstep 4 DAYS later, exactly as I ordered it. That computer is still running strong. I've since ordered another Dell, which I'm totally pleased with.
