Gauge issues

Rpm gauge reads all over the place. Today it read 1000 while idling and I know it was not at 1000. I tapped the glass on the gauge and needle started jumping around until it started reading close to being right. Fuel gauge same thing and it hasn't worked for a while, I thought it was maybe the sending unit, but when I tap it it moves around. Is this a sign of bad gauges?. They are Honda gauges on a 2001 sea chaser center console with 115 Yamaha. (If that matters)...any input is greatly appreciated

If need to tap gauges on top glass, could be due to very little use, needle kind of stucks inside gauges, a sign that calls for new gauges soon..

They look like original gauges so I'm sure they probably just about need changing out.

clean the contacts (power, ground and signal) on the back of the gauge.

Changed all battery connections at battery. Inspected wires behind tach guage. Turn the key on gauge moves up a little. Turn key off and gauge goes to around 900. Right under the 1000 mark. Bump the key and the gauge moves up every time I bump the key. Turn key off and gauge goes back to around 900? Have not tried it running yet.

Also traced the wires from gauge to ignition. Everything looked alright except this round thing( no idea) on the back of the ignition, looks like it might have a little corrosion on it but don't know what it's called.....
