You can start by cleaning all the battery terminals. From there, check the ground wires and make sure they get good contact at the ground bus....just follow the wires to find it. Look behind the gauges for corrosion. If your gauges get power from one source, say, the main fuse on the switch panel, make sure the fuse is good there and the fuse near the battery (turn key off when testing). You can test a fuse with a volt meter (complete the circuit function, continuity,...I forget the name). It would be a good idea to use dielectric grease on all electrical contacts including the grounds. Barring all that, the last thing to check would be the key switch, since the gauges are powered from there, make sure you have +12 volts on the "A" terminal of the switch.
