Hi folks: 1985 30 hp Johnson working fine. I'm changing the oil in the gear case for the upcoming season and thought I'd flush the gear case before I put in fresh oil. What would you suggest as a flush - don't want to compromise the seals.

Cheers, John

Hi: looked just fine. A little dark but you could see through it. No signs of emulsion or water globules.

So why flush. "Don't fix it if it ain't broke......."

Agree, let it drain and refill. If its "clear and bright" its OK. Most oils darken a bit in service.

If it had water in it I'd suggest a flush with cheap automotive engine oil drain well and refill

Dont forget .... new seals on the drain and level plugs

Agree with the others. No need to flush if all appears well. New seals every time though.

Appreciate your replies and advice. New plug seals and refill - that's it. Thanks again.

All the best. John
