I just rebuilt the lower unit on the 55 Fleetwin about a month ago... I saw a very small amount of oil leaking near the prop and thought it to be the spaghetti gasket. i just replaced it and decided to pump a bit of air into the top filling hole while the lower was sealed. I noted a bit of a leak athe the gear case head seal at the prop shaft. Firstly... I am not sure how much air pressure it should handle... I might have been too high. Any thoughts on this... The seal was new... Did I install it incorrectly? It seems unlikely that it would be a defective part. Please advise.

Is the shaft grooved?

Between 8-12 psi I believe is the target for a pressure test. If the prop shaft is worn at the seal (grooved) it may still leak even with a new prop shaft seal.

So did you replace the prop shaft seal, as well? Did you leave a little excess spaghetti seal overhanging at the head? If you have to replace the prop seal you might as well replace all the seals.

yes I replaced the whole gang. Also, I left the 1/32+ for the spaghetti seal. As for the shaft being grooved a bit... possibly. I am sure that I blew a lot more pounds than you described... I'll back her down and retest. Thanks.

You have to be careful as too pressure can damage the seals.
