Hello

I am goint to change the oil for my first time and need some tips.

I have a 1977 1500 outboard merc

I have read up a little on how to do this but need advise from the guys that do it all the time.

I don't have a manual and am yet to find one but am a cheap dude and want to save money so I will be buying the oil and pump.
I will remove the upper screw then the lower screw and let the oil drain,
once empty I will install the pump on the lower hole and fill er up till oil comes out the top screw.
I will then install the top screw, remove the pump and install the bottom screw. DONE

does that sound about right?

Thanks

Re: gear housing oil change by myself

you should change the gaskets on the drain screws they are the biggest cilprit for letting water in.
