Re: Gear Lube in Bellows

guess i'm late for this thread.
i'd make the attempt at R&Ring the seal and drive gear yoke. i can't remember if replacing the drive gear yoke require shimming or not. w/o looking, i think no shimming. if no shimming is required which you need to check out in the s/m then i think go for it.
i did the yoke, seal and brgs. R&Ring the brgs. did require shimming. i got away with borrowing the shim tool.

as for your yoke. mine had mild wear too from rust. hence the replacement of it. i didn't want to do it again either. the yoke was round abouts $90 i think a year or so ago.
if ya got the small spacer in the brg. pack, it is straight torque to put it back together again. i just followed the book. + ask a lot of questions about doing the deed here on iboats.

sure i wondered weather i'd last. but best i can tell from talking to folks and reading. if ya do it wrong, you'll know in pretty short order that you've failed. i'm up to almost 2 years since doing the deed. so far so good.

might search threads started by me around mid winter of '07. i had a few post for sure and got much good advise. good luck..
