My gear lube reservoir is draining every time I take the boat out. There are no visual signs of leaking on the exterior of the boat or on the driveway. it only seems to do it when the boat is underway in the water. I already checked the gear lube and there are no visual signs of water. Where is it going?

Howdy,

Did you recently change your drive oil? If you did, the drive will "burp" for a while as all the air in the drive works its way to the top.

IT SHOULD eventually STOP. If it doesn't, then you may have a leak and you should have the drive pressure & vacuum checked.

regards,

Rick

Just changed the drive oil about 2 weeks ago. About 10 hours of use. It never did it before. I did have the whole drive off and changed all the bellows, shift shaft bushing/seal etc. Im just stumped because there is no oil anywhere.

I have the same problem. I replaced the impeller this winter and have run the boat all summer, maybe 20 hours or so, and always seem to lose a little oil each time out. The amout is about 1/8 inch of oil drop in the reservoir each outing, about an hour of running each time. There is no trace of oil anywhere. I am guessing it is either the seal carrier under the impeller or the lower oil seal in the upper. I will pull the drive after summer is done and see if there is any oil in the bellows.

I had the same problem this spring after replacing the lube - at first I thought it was normal 'burping' but kept at it each time I took it out. Turned out that the upper vent screw on the lower unit was slightly loose. Took it out, replaced the washer again and tightened. Perfect ever since...
