Hard to see in attached photo but where the red circle is there is a small hole and I have gear lube slowly leaking out.
I've just changed my impeller and was wondering if it is the oil passage o-ring that is leaking.
any help would be appreciated - thanks
74 140 mercruiser

its likely the shift shaft seal thats leaking oil thru that hole. its a very simple replacement, requires a tool for removal you might have to rent. hold the shift shaft down while you are removing the seal, sometimes the cam shifts if the shaft is pulled and it can be tricky to replace

Yep, what BenC said. Mine was leaking the same way this spring. New shift shaft seal and she was all good again. I made my own tool. It was pretty easy to replace....
74Silverline

Is that small hole normal? I have the same hole there, and I just noticed it!
