I have a 1979 19' Reinell with a 120hp GM 4 cylinder and a stringer outdrive. I don't know too much about outdrives, but thanks to this site I'm learning more everyday. My question is this: There is a gear set that connects the engine drive shaft to the upper unit. When the outdrive it up, the gears are perpendicular to each other. When the outdrive is lowered, the gears match up and are parallel to each other. I imagine this is one of the reasons you're not supposed to run the engine with the outdrive up. There is no grease of them now...do these two gears need to be lubricated with a water resistant grease? Additionaly, does the "drive gear" and "running gear" for the tilt motor assembly need to be lubricated? Sorry for the name, I'm just not sure what the parts are called.
