If it's from the drain hole near the water intakes, then the driveshaft seals or the bearing housing o-ring are leaking. This is assuming that you don't have any small cracks from freeze damage from water in the oil.

Can be the shift rod seal. Bad driveshaft seals will usually show up as water in the gear oil.

Oil from a leaking shift rod o-ring would not come out the water drain weep hole.

Of course, considering the age of the motor, all the seals and o-rings should be replaced at the same time.

Thats what I was afraid of.I purposely had my servicing done in the off season so everything would be ready to go come spring.Just my luck!!

Are you 100% sure it's gear oil?

Consult with the mechanic that did the service...... is there a chance he used oil for assembly lube????

Oil from a leaking shift rod would come certainly out the water pee hole on a 1974-1994 15. Would have to look at the other models, but may also be possible.

It is no doubt gear oil.Not just a drop or two.The motor sat for several weeks after the mechanic did the water pump and did not leak a drop until I started it up. 1995 150 hp Ocean pro.Any chance of mechanic error????

I would definitely call the mechanic up. If he wants to keep your business and have you bring him new customers, he will definitely try and make you happy in any way possible.

The motor in question is a 1995 150hp, not a 15 which has a completely different designed gearcase on it.
