Taking them the boat, or just the upper? Will they reassemble and pressure test, and then provide warranty? I'm not buying the homemade tool/reset theory...too "iffy". Yes...major work to disassemble the upper and properly replace the seals. Lends credence to the advice of taking the whole drive off the boat to do an impeller replacement. Best of luck and hope all goes well!

Did you look up inside the upper at that seals and can you tell if they are (or look) damaged? Can you take pictures? Note that both seals have to be damaged/leaking for you to get the symptoms you had. (this thread will go along way to help others do this work).

To replace those 2 seals the upper must come apart on a GEN II #5 this link Sterndrive Exploded Views B : MerCstuff.Com

After talking with the pros I decided I am best served having them pull the upper apart and do the seals along with a pressure test. I will update this thread when they finish to let everyone know what was found. Thanks again.

Good call....by the time you acquired the tools ....spent the money.....did the job....the summer would be over, enjoy your boat with a piece of mind.
