Engine: 1979 Johnson 115 Sea Horse. I bought this motor and runs pretty good but i noticed that when parked in driveway abd tilted all way down, gear oil seeps out through the propeller shaft housing, also through where the lower unit meets mid section. Seller said they changed the water impeller before selling and did not run it in the water since the replacement. Could it be that they left a seal/o ring out? Any help appreciated. Les.

This is an often discussed item.---It could very well be normal after running on a hose idling.-----If you need to get a concrete answer then have the lower unit pressure tested to look for leaks.---There are no lower unit seals involved in changing out a waterpump impeller.

Also, i noticed that the tale tale is not a consistent stream. There is water coming out but is more like a string spurting than a stream.

sometimes a bit of dirt etc goes through the engine can clog the end of the telltale, poke something up it and try again.
if that doesnt make it **** out then you will have to look further into it.
if you are using a barrel to test run in this the water level needs to be at least a few inches above the cavitation plate otherwise you will get inconsistent peeing, and the impeller will burn out

To check whether you are losing gear oil or if its just engine oil then undo the top fill plug and check the oil level and check that its not looking like its got water in it, such as milky colour
