Very interesting results. The egg beater test is scary. Check it out. web page

edit. I am not affiliated with either of these companies, just thought it was interesting.

Re: gear oil test.

Don't let it scare you too much, your L/U gears are submerged in oil afterall; they're not perched on top of an egg beater. :D

Drowned Rat,
Don't forget that's just ONE web site. All you have to do is keep surfing to find another web site with a "test" or advertising that debunks it. Empiricle testing like that has to be taken with a "grain o salt". Think about it, the loser oil company in that test advertises their synthetic oil is the best...and many people believe that too.

Re: gear oil test.

Thats a new one...the Egg Beater test. :D :D :D

My brother tried one of those Amway type things, so I was obligated to go to one of those recruiting seminars those people always have going on. They tried to convince me that styrofoam has a similar molecular structure to bacon grease. They poured some drain cleaners into styrofoam cups and amazingly  their product ate right through it. I just snickered to myself because I know what gasoline does to styrofoam cups. :D

It seems to me that the water separation thing is sorta counterproductive in a marine gearcase. You're going to get some water in there sooner or later. I'd rather it mix in with the lube rather than settle to the bottom and rust the bottom of the parts.
