both 2 strokes, Wally's carries the quicksilver for Mercury and I think gear oil is gear oil really, but can I put this into the lower unit of the Evinrude?

Re: Gear Oil

As long as it is "lower unit oil" it will be fine, it's probably the exact same thing as the Walmart brand only more expensive.

I have used the Wal Mart brand for years with no problems and I change mine 2-3 times per year and check it before every trip to make sure I don't have any water.

Gear oil is gear oil. Some brands charge you extra for their advertising and marketing. Wal Mart doesn't.

Take out only the lower plug, let a little run out and put it back in real quick. If it's only the right colored oil that comes out, it's all good.

Re: Gear Oil

Ya, I just crack the plug to see if I get oil or water, after a couple days the water seperates from the oil and it will come out first.

I am on my, counting rebuilds 4th or 5th lower, the last was due to a water leak so I check mine before almost every trip now, alot cheaper than a lower ya know.
