Gear Ratio - What/Where is Mine?

Hi,,,me again.

When I hear talk of gear ratio, are folks talking about the outdrive?
Where can I find what mine is?
I have a 5.0 Mercruiser, Alpha 1 drive

1.84 or 1.50 no real way to tell without counting the teeth on the gears.

If your outdrive is original and the decals are still on it, the gear ratio should be listed on the side with the outdrive serial number as long as the decal is still there and it hasn't been repainted

I have a 2001 Tahoe Q7 with 5.0 and alpha 1 gen II and the label says 1.62R I think. Its hard to read though and I'm aware that its not listed on the chart

If there is no sticker alot of the time they stamp the gear ratio into the outdrive itself on the port side of the drive it will probably be hard to see with the paint but you can find it. Mine didnt have stickers either so i called mercruiser technical support and they told me how to find it.

Here is the number to call mercruiser its free support and they can tell you about anything if you have the serial numbers. 405-743-6566 for sterndrives press number 4 at the menu
