Hi All
I need to repair the gear shift handle on my evinrude 6 hp outboard model # 6302s. I broke the handle and a friend offered to weld it if I can remove it from the outboard. This is my first outboard but I am handy. Any suggestions how to remove it
Thanks
Sebastian

Re: Gear Shift Handle Broken

remove the power head. its common on the 6hp:). used to do 4 or 5 a year:). lay them in the truck wrong and by the time ya get to the fishing hole its a nub on the side of the motor and the handle is in the bed someplace.. if its not a saltwater motors its easy and stright fwd. a bit tricky to lower the head back on and keep the throttle tower lined up but not hard at all.
I have seen them welded in place. if enough is sticking up from the engine part.

Re: Gear Shift Handle Broken

stombs
no worries. usually takes only one handle to remember which way to lay it :) . did mine once. I also found that if laid on the tiller side and ya hit a big bump it can snap the tiller. I use a square boat throw cusion to lay it on now.
