I have a 4.3LX mercruiser and I am having problems with the shifter. I stays in gear to long, backwards and forwards. Just wondering if anyone has any ideas on how I can adjust it.

Thanks

Re: gear shift problems

Sounds like your shift interrupter is not working properly.

Depending on which switch you have, you actually can take it apart (carefully) and clean the contacts inside before you order a new one. My was 100% dead about 2 years ago. I was about to pay $$$$ for a brand new then decided it take it apart to see what was up... Turned out my copper pins had bad connection in their and where too far apart in spacing. Cleaned everything up nice, adjusted the pins and 2 years later still shifting smoothly thank God.

Check the shift cable that goes from the shift switch to the out drive if is slow to to come out of gear and that cable is rusty or dirty it will not shift properly. I had the exact same problem 2 weeks ago.
