Well... engine runs good... now the gearcase has let me down.
Background info: i bought the engine knowing there was an issue. tor it apart, found the pinion gear toast, teeth worn down big time. fwd/rev gears had a some rounding and a couple nicks in the teeth, so i just changed the pinion gear.

got a year out of it and the last time i took it out, once i gave it throttle it banged and clattered.

tore it back down. pinion bearing upper thrust washer had a wear groove all the way around from the roller bearings and then broke into 4 pieces. all 3 gears trash from roller bearings deciding to wedge between gears.

I want to put new gears back in... but im worried about the pinion bearing area of the case.
Is there a way to tell if the case is FUBAR?

gear lube was burnt black, not surprised. i watched a video on filling the case; said to wait 10min and repump (slowly the whole time before too)... i got a feeling i could have under filled it due to an air pocket since i did not wait. i feel as though more fluid should have drained out...

i didnt think of it sooner... i have an inspection mirror that fits down in there... i was able to see the thrust washer surface clearly. its fine... thankfully. idk how, but i dont care. the rebuild will move forward. if it gets trashed again... i will chalk it up to another expensive lesson learned lol

Being i see the thrust area of the case, im ok with taking the chance. had i not seen it, i would have gotten another unit.
