Well... engine runs good... now the gearcase has let me down.
Background info: i bought the engine knowing there was an issue. tor it apart, found the pinion gear toast, teeth worn down big time. fwd/rev gears had a some rounding and a couple nicks in the teeth, so i just changed the pinion gear.
got a year out of it and the last time i took it out, once i gave it throttle it banged and clattered.
tore it back down. pinion bearing upper thrust washer had a wear groove all the way around from the roller bearings and then broke into 4 pieces. all 3 gears trash from roller bearings deciding to wedge between gears.
I want to put new gears back in... but im worried about the pinion bearing area of the case.
Is there a way to tell if the case is FUBAR?
I will post some pics tomorrow.
