hey !

i just purchased a boat with the evinrude 150 ficht ram. now it will get new sparks (XC12PEPB) as well i think to change the drive oil. one mechanic told me that at this motor the lube is for a lifetime and no change is needed. is it true??

when the decision to change is made- what oil is recommended and what is the capacity of the drive ?

thanks much in advance.

The lower unit oil should be changed about every 100 hours or every season. There are various posts on what type of gear lube to use however you can't go wrong if you buy a couple of bottles of lube from your BRP dealer although any 80W90 or 90W GL-5 spec lube will work. New plugs will have to be gaped and indexed. You will want to buy and use synthetic two stroke oil in your engine I would buy that oil from your BRP dealer. If you don't have the service manual you can order one from

thanks much for the quick and useful reply ! ok, the oil will be changed, i will look for a good 80w90 as well synthetic tc-wIII spec sythetic oil for direct injected two strokes.

i am aware of indexing the spark plugs in relation to the injektor nozzle.

for clarification of gaping the plugs ( 0,3 in) : does this mean that out of the box the OEM recommended champion plugs , which here in germany are very rare and expensive ( 18 eur one ) are gaped wrong for this engine and have to be adjusted manually?

one more word for indexing : are some stories true that you will have to buy 10 plugs for changing six or can i expect that when one plug will not work at one bank it should do this on the opossite side?

thanks also for the link to the manual ! i do not have a full service manual an its hard to get in germany!

best regards

Generally they are gaped correctly but you always want to verify that they are correct. They are massed produced and screw ups can happen on the assembly line. I can't verify the stories about indexing the plugs as I don't run an injected outboard myself. My neighbor runs one and I do get to hear him complain about the running costs of the synthetic two stroke oil. He has always taken his to the Evinrude dealer for maintenance as he isn't very mechanically inclined.
