Guys (and gals);

I have a nick in my gel coat from last season that I need to repair.

My plan is to lightly sand the whole area and gouge, clean with acetone and apply the Spectrum Gel Coat Repair with a squeegie. Once dried, sand, polish and wax? Should I do it stages or one coat?

HERE'S THE NICK:

THE GEL REPAIR KIT (Thank you iboats):

Thanks in advance!

You will end up doing it in at least two stages. I did a 2' x 2' section of dock rash in a similar fashion with spectrum on the searay

I agree ^^^ first application will fill it. Sanding will remove more than you want probably and then the second application will do the final fairing and blending.

Usually, you stick a small piece of clear rigid plastic (report covers work fine, or salvage something out of the recycle bin) over the gelcoat once you apply it so that it forms a smooth surface with the surrounding area. You can also bend/shape the plastic overlay to contour to curves areas. Sanding is then a bit easier with this approach.

I use wax paper after I apply the gel-coat. I use a thin bondo type spreader on top of the wax paper to smooth things out. I pull off the wax paper a couple hours later, and like Tpenfield say's you get a real nice shiny surface to work with. This method seems to need less sanding for me. Dave-R

After 1st coat. Weather was not conducive to a second coat...next week.

I let dry overnight. Then sanded with 150...200...400...600...1500...polishing compound (with buffer) and finally waxed. I'll get more pics this weekend. And with any luck finish it off, weather permitting?
