I've read about boat "pox" but mine is a little different in that it's almost boat "pimples". it's in areas above the waterline in small "patches" maybe a foot square. looks like about 100 mosquito bites in that area. they haven't erupted but look awefull. I have maybe 6 areas on the boat (inside the deck and on the gunnels) thoughts?

A little more information would be helpful. Can you post a pic? Is the gel-cote original? Could those areas have been previously patched? How old is it?
Without any specifics, I'd try some 600 grit wet, in a inconspicuous area and see how far down you gotta go;)

It really sounds like osmosis. Is there anything below the waterline?

Its not uncommon to have small blisters where the canvas or boat cover touch areas above the water line. Water becomes trapped under the cover right next to the gel coat and it can be heated a greatr deal when the sun comes out, this creates an environment that easily blisters the gel coat (sometimes).
