I have a 17.6" Larson speedboat that I just bought that has the gel coat scrapped off the keel at the front about 12" long exposing the fiberglass. It seems to be the worn off from parking the boat over the years on a clam sandbar. Is there an ebay kit or other similar kit available in Canada that people use? Suggestions?

Pictures would help to see the level of repair needed. If it is really bad you will need to sand back to good glass and then add some fiberglass. May even need to go on the inside of the boat. If it is a minor scrape, sand the area and then add marine tex (http://www.marinetex.com/). To help prevent it from occuring again put a keelguard on the boat http://www.keelguard.com/ or add some 1708 to the keel. With out pictures these are just guesses.

No the damage is just limited to the gel coat being removed. I can take pictures when I get home if it will help.

If it is just minor there are gelcoat repair kits. (http://www.evercoat.com/productDetail.aspx?pID=101) Depending on the color of your boat you may need to blend it to match the color which can be difficult. Of course the keelguard option which is around $100-150 would hide the gelcoat issue and provide protection against those clam beds.

I checked out the keelguard you mentioned and it seems like you just stick it on the the an adhesive strip. The only concern is if I don't re-apply the gelcoat will this stick alright to the section of the keel that the gel coat is missing?

I would assume that it would, but might want to send the company an email and I am sure they would give you the correct advice. I know with most things, prepping the surface is the key.

If you want to MAKE SURE you do it right post some pics so we can SEE what you see. There is no other way that we can be sure the advise we give you is correct and your boat will be repaired in the right manner.
