Re: gelcoat

I have seen imron paint jobs that looked okay, but if the color is wrong they look like paint.

I prefer to restore the gelcoat by wet sanding with very fine paper, then buffing. Inside, too.

Check continuouswave.com. A lot of guys there restore gelcoat.

Re: gelcoat

I didn't think linking to other web forums was within the rules. :D

however the site JB linked is a great whaler site - if you can manage to put up with 100% die hard whalers and if you modify it they will chastize you - but don't worry, they don't bite!

now having said that, I'm a member there and post somewhat frequently, but I don't have thin skin and don't really care that my whaler isn't 100% factory.
(ps..make sure you have spell check on and post correct grammar..or your post will be modified)

Here is what I did to my 13' whaler doing a resto with gel-coat instead of paint. Gel is much more durable and repairs easily.

http://www.keltonkrew.com/whaler-restore.htm

http://www.keltonkrew.com/whaler.html

I have to agree with JB that gel is the only way to go with these classic boats! JB had a really nice whaler that he sold a while back....wish I could have had it!

If you can't post with the big dogs, stay on the porch.

Many Whalerites like things done right, including use of our language.

Re: gelcoat

It's really amusing how "anal" takes on a new meaning when it comes to Whalerites. Some folks are just a little too eat up with themselves ... in any language.

Re: gelcoat

Well, it doesn't really matter, does it?

There are things we insist on here and things they insist on there. Take your pick.

This is not the place to insult another forum or its members, though that might be allowed there.

CW is a bottomless well of info about Whalers. If you don't follow their rules and style you wont get much of it.
