I've been spending a lot of time fixing up an early 1960's 14' runabout and the 1963 40HP Johnson that came with it. I'm learning as I go. The transom is ready to pour Seacast and I'm about to start fiberglass repairs. The iBoats forums are a huge resource! On to my question:<br />The boat is painted with a brush, kinda sloppy, but sticking well. Good paint; crappy job putting it on. If this boat is going to see water this year I won't have time to do the picky job of painting I'd prefer (if I do something I do it right and take FOREVER doing it). I am unfamiliar with "gelcoat" but I guess it's basically painting the boat with epoxy without much hardener in it. Can I apply "gelcoat" over this old paint job without causing a major headache next year when I want to do a good job of painting? Just seal over the old existing paint with "gelcoat" and then go back later and paint over the gelcoat? Advice please, oh wise ones!
