Hey guys i am getting ready to change bellows on my out drive. My boat is a 1983 Chaperral with mercruiser 260 that i just rebuilt with what i thought to be alph one gen one outdrive. during rebuild my buddy that rebuilds engins said it looked as if it were rebuilt before. so i purchased a impeller for gen 1. it is completly differant, the housing on the water pump covering the impeller is stainless steel, and i was told those were only on gen 2. So I was told that the u joints bellow is all that is differant, so if mine is a gen 2 i need to change my order asap. ?????????

Thanks guys

so my thoughts are they replaced outdrive too. i am at work and unable to get the numbers off of it. are there any pictures or anything of the differances to tell? i took it apart last night so should be able to tell. And another question, could just the lower unit of the outdrive have been replaced? prob a dumb question, but i am a noobie

Looking at the pictures my unit seems to be a gen 2. It is held together by nuts and bolts. Thanks for the help guys.

Nothing between the two drives and transom shields are interchangable. except the gimbal bearing. But who is to say that someone with access to a machine shop didn't hand fabricate a bunch of parts to make it fit.

I believe he was just talking about the bellows and gaskets.
