Hello all, 470 alpha one gen one and it looks like the bearing came out of the housing. Everything ran perfect, no issues whatsoever going out to the islands. But when I started it up to head back to shore I heard a horrible clanking down there. I take a look and the yoke is jumping around in the housing (not at the engine). So the bearing needs replaced. I noticed on a few threads through the years of talk about a gimble bearing that is sealed and does not need to be greased. Is this bearing available for the gen one? And if so where can I find them.
Also, I plan on changing the props again. If I go from aluminum to SS do I need to change size or pitch? Or would it use the same size props.

Ouch, you are scaring me Bondo! What else could be messed up besides the bearing? Hopefully the housing is ok. It was brand new 2 years ago... I can weld if its a little messed up. I have an extra drive. And of course I need to do a full bellows replacement. But what else would I be worried about? I have to pull into a boat yard, with a friday pull, and a monday return. So my time frame is short. At 100$ a day I was hoping for a weekend only job. But I wont be able to get any additional parts over the weekend.
I would assume the housing is in ok shape as there is no water coming in.

Sounding to me like you might have busted a universal joint on the yoke. Could still be a gimbal bearing but like Bondo said, you won't know till you in there... That being said, if its been a while, it might be worth replacing both the gimbal bearing AND the universal joints.

Thanks as always guys! I didn't think of the u-joint or the yokes breaking. Now I see what you was saying about additional parts Bondo.

Broken U-joint, and ruptured bellows. Good thing I have a bilge pump and 2 backups wired straight to batteries. It was taking on a lot of water for the last week.

Depending on how the yoke was hopping around it could have taken out the transom side where the bellows attach to.

Yeah BT Doctur, light damage to that section. Was able to fix with a weld. The bell housing was annihilated. I had to replace. Now to no surprise whatsoever I am back to a overheating issue. Runs fine up to 3200rpm then anything over that and the piece of crap overheats. I have had this same issue 6 or so months ago, and and a year before that. And this last time I replaced everything. New hoses, new riser, new exhaust manifold, cleaned heat exchanger (original culprit) and flushed system. Replaced the impeller this time around and I see plenty of water flow for the impeller. I am baffled why I keep this boat and these 470's. Maybe because I cant save any money to buy another one since I am constantly feeding this beast....... Sometimes I wish I would stop loving boating so much and find something else to do with my weekends.....
