Re: General Performance Enhancements for Marinized Ford 302?
Daman, if your engine is enclosed with a cover (ie. you have to run air blowers to clear out gas fumes), the you can NOT run an autozone off-the shelf alternator. It will blow your engine bay up. You need special marine electronics to reduce your chance of creating sparks that will blow your boat up. If it is like a jet boat, and sitting out in the open, you should be fine.
Check out this site for a list of prices for all the individual parts on my engine. Yes, some were free, or traded, and the "Underground Parts" were purchased at cost, (and there is a good story behind that $200 block
)so add another 40% to those plus or minus. But a cam can be had for $150-ish, and those roller rockers another 150-ish. Right at the top of this page http://scooper77515.fordmaverick.net/specsheet.htm
And yes, you can get e7 headed mustang engines for a couple hundred at the junk yards. We do that for our Mavericks all the time. Sometimes you get a good engine, sometimes not. Craigslist and ebay "usually" net you a better deal, where someone has already built it, run it a while, and wants an upgrade, and can tell you what rpm range it was built for.
