Daman, if your engine is enclosed with a cover (ie. you have to run air blowers to clear out gas fumes), the you can NOT run an autozone off-the shelf alternator. It will blow your engine bay up. You need special marine electronics to reduce your chance of creating sparks that will blow your boat up. If it is like a jet boat, and sitting out in the open, you should be fine.

Check out this site for a list of prices for all the individual parts on my engine. Yes, some were free, or traded, and the "Underground Parts" were purchased at cost, (and there is a good story behind that $200 block ;))so add another 40% to those plus or minus. But a cam can be had for $150-ish, and those roller rockers another 150-ish. Right at the top of this page http://scooper77515.fordmaverick.net/specsheet.htm

And yes, you can get e7 headed mustang engines for a couple hundred at the junk yards. We do that for our Mavericks all the time. Sometimes you get a good engine, sometimes not. Craigslist and ebay "usually" net you a better deal, where someone has already built it, run it a while, and wants an upgrade, and can tell you what rpm range it was built for.

I think you need to back up a minnute and give this all some more thought. First, you can't just "hot cam" a marine engine like a car. If you do water reversion becomes a SERIOUS issue. (Pulling water back into the cyls. throught the exhaust.) A great thing to do if you goal is to destroy the engine, not so good if you want to keep it running.

This is only true when running wet headers and a very big cam. I doubt he'll use either....

Check this out. ;)

I appreciate all the time/input from everyone. Camming out the engine probably isn't going to happen, just because of $$...but it sounds like a 4bbl/new intake man. will get me a little boost. I have some money to throw around, but I'm going to spend it wisely. Thanks for the parts/model #s, etc...those really help. It really is a good running boat, its probably one of the faster ones on the lake I boat at (Raystown lake) at 45-48mph top speed. However, I'm greedy, and love more grunt, whether at top or bottom. And if a 4bbl will save me gas on the lower end (I usually pull tubes/skiers, or just cruise around 35mph), then its worth it to me. Wouldn't mind a thru-hull exhaust either, but thats a different topic :) She growls pretty good as it is!

Nice intake. searched for it on summitracing.com and it came right up. Not sure whether to go with the holley or edelbrock carb...however, i noticed the fuel inlet is on the side of the edelbrock, where its on the front of my current holley 2bbl. I have steel fuel lines, so new fuel lines would be in order...not sure if something like that is readily available (in the right bends, etc)...perhaps i should go with holley 4bbl, which has the inlet in the same location as my current carb?

I'll be placing an order before friday though. taking in all the advice i can get!

I think the main factor will be "Which do you feel more comfortable tuning/adjusting?". If you have worked on Holley 4brls and tore them down, etc, might be better off with what you know. If you have experience with neither, the Edelbrock will be easier to tune. Or are you refering to the 450cfm 4brl Holley that is suppose to be tuned to a marine Ford 302?

You will need to stay with a hard line, but there are some marine approved flexible lines, but rather pricey. Need the larger diameter flame arrester, too. Check to see if your throttle cable bracket can be used with the 4brl.

I have tuned mine myself, so I think I have an idea of how to tune a holley; Not sure of which holley would be tuned specifically to a ford 302...if you would know which carb that is, please, let me know! As far as fuel line, I just doubt I would be able to find a steel fuel line with the correct bend to fit the edelbrock; plus, the current line is bolted and clamped to the engine block, way back in the compartment, which would make it near impossible to swap out (for me at least!)

From Holley site:

0-80364 450 CFM Four Barrel Carburetor
Model 4160; Electric Choke; Vacuum Secondary; Calibrated for Small Block 302 Ford Marine Engines

I thought they had a 600cfm that was tuned for 302, but only found one for the 351.

It was also on Jeg's site.

BTW, I'm refering to changing internal parts and testing, reading plugs, etc. I haven't done any holley tuning since the 70's. The edelbrock's primary calibration can be done without dis-asembling the carb. Primary jet, rods, and springs can be accessed by the little plates on each side of the airhorn.

Even when they say it's tuned for, that might not be the case for your particular engine/boat/load/altitude situation.
